The religious instruction of the children is the
major focus of the curriculum of St. Vincent de Paul.
Religion classes are taught on a daily basis. The
National Catechetical Directory is the norm for this
instruction along with curriculum guidelines from the
Office of Catholic Education/Office of Catechetical
Services. Students attend Mass as a school religious
function. Parents are invited to participate in these
liturgies as they are able. Mass is celebrated with
various levels or the whole school on a weekday at 8:30
a.m.
Prayer is an
important part of each day and is encouraged throughout
the day. In addition to daily religious lessons that
teach the basics of faith, students participate in
special projects during liturgical seasons in order to
increase their understanding and love of our Catholic
traditions and provide them with opportunities to reach
out to others in service and care.
All of this,
however, needs to be fostered and supported in the
home. The school becomes an extension of the home in
the life of a child; and, therefore, we cannot
accomplish these religious goals alone.
We strive to make
these goals real in the following ways:
-
Daily religious
instruction
-
Lectionary-based
Catechesis
-
Academic
instruction for the reception of the sacraments will
take place during religion classes in school. We
urge parents to fully participate in the
preparation of children
for the sacraments.
RECONCILIATION AND FIRST
EUCHARIST
Parents of students in Grade 2 will be expected to
attend special meetings throughout the school year in
preparation for their child's reception of these
sacraments.
CONFIRMATION
Parents of students in Grade 8 will be expected to
attend special meetings throughout the school year in
preparation for their child's reception of the
sacrament. The confirmation program demands Christian
community service hours from the Eighth Grade students.
